Head for the hills: the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort is the best for a San Antonio golf vacation.

La Cantera Resort gets a lot of attention because the PGA Tour plays the Texas Open there (this week, in fact), but as we wrote in our free, special report about taking a San Antonio golf vacation:
As far as the destination resorts go, you will fare much better at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort, across the street from Sea World San Antonio.
Designed to fit its setting, the resort is a rough-hewn, wrought iron and pine, Hill Country-themed retreat. Its Arthur Hills course is the region's highlight, and something of a sleeper; at first glance it appears subdued, but as you play it you quickly appreciate the intricacies of the routing and the many strategic decisions found throughout.
Off the course, the clubhouse and resort continue the Western theme, and a ranch house and barn alongside the course serve as the Windflower Spa. Whimsical windmills give the property a Disney-esque feel along with house facilities such as Aunt Mary's Texas Tea Porch, Papa Ed's Pool Bar, the General Store and Charlies Long Copper-Topped Bar.
Rooms are unspectacular and typical of a three to four-star resort, but the quality of the course and overall, fun appeal of the resort makes this our choice for a San Antonio golf vacation. The best alternative is a non-golf downtown city hotel.
This could all change, of course, when the JW Marriott opens its San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, scheduled for 2010. The "luxury" resort will feature two, 18-hole golf courses: the TPC of San Antonio, designed by Greg Norman and Sergio Garcia (which will begin hosting the Texas Open that year), and another designed by Pete Dye and Bruce Lietzke.
If nothing else, there will be a few more exciting golf courses to play on your San Antonio golf vacation.
